Rivendell Kennels is a very small hobby kennel located in southwestern
Wisconsin. I have loved dogs all my life, and they have always been a
part of my life. I think of showing, breeding, and sharing a life with
dogs as both an art and a science as well as a passion. I fell in love
with collies while in elementary school re-reading all of Albert Payson
Terhune’s collie books many, many times. Of course, I noticed Lassie
also, but the Terhune books made me think that I wanted to live out in
the country with collies when I grew up and write books.
My interest in collies has lasted for 55 years and doesn’t seem to be
going to go away any time soon. I acquired my first show collie in 1981
from Tamisett Collies (Ch. Wyndfall’s the Titan x Ch. Tamisett’s Golden
Dream). In 1992, I purchased my second show collie from Joyce Spirat at
Raptorvale Collies. That beautiful blue puppy bitch became Ch.
Raptorvale Lothlorien. My third, Ka-Zes Rivendell Simbelmyne, a lovely
tri who was bred in 2008 to Ch. Winover Shadows in the Sky, came from
Kathy and Jerry Zehetner in 2005. I have studied and followed collies
for 30 years, but a demanding work career has severely limited any time
to breed and show during that period. With retirement, my time has become my own to pursue this lifelong love. My
future plans include a 2018 breeding of Rivendell’s Billie Jean.
My interest in Irish Wolfhounds developed in 1976 when I saw them at Westminster and promptly fell in love again. My focus in breeding both collies and Irish wolfhounds is on improving the breed–and that includes conformation, health, and temperament. I have puppies available occasionally to forever homes only. Currently, an Irish wolfhound breeding is planned for October of 2017. Click on the Irish wolfhound tab for more About Us with Irish wolfhounds.
