Nice Site
Like you, my love of collies comes from an Albert Peyson Terhune book, “The Way of a Dog”, a Biko that belonged to my dad when he was growing up. That, and “Lassie” turned into a lifelong love of collies. I have had two…one had to be put down before reaching one year of age because of a skin condition that did not respond to treatment. Our second had to be re-homed due to a military transfer to Hawaii and we couldn’t afford transportation and quarantine. Now that we are retired, I hope to be able to save up enough to have another…collies are really the only breed I want…as a companion only…no showing or breeding. Thanks for your responsible breeding.
Your dogs are beautiful. Thank you for sharing them with those of us learning about the breed. I hope one day to be lucky enough to be owned by an Irish Wolfhound.
I have just lost my companion collie of 13 years and I am trying not to resist the urge to get another. It is not working and I miss my beautiful blue merle, Cody, more than I care to admit. Even to myself!
My son and daughter in law are both veterinarians of some note in both private practice and at the University of Penna. Incidentally, my son and daughter both attended and graduated from the University of Michigan and my grandson will be a freshmen at the University of Wisconsin this fall.
All that being said, I would be very interested in a more senior dog (male or female) that might be retiring from your breeding program and is looking for a loving home with experienced owners to retire to the gentle life. We have three other rescue dogs who are getting up there in years 10,12 and 13 respectively. They are gentle and accepting of new introductions to the family! We adopted a 5 year old collie from another breeder who was 5 at the time and she (FIONA) lived until ten when she contracted cancer and needed to leave us forever.
I look forward to your reply… respectfully
Mitchell Berman
Sorry to be so many months behind responding. These comments apparently don’t show up unless I log in and then go to the comments page. Let me know if you are still looking. Love the university connections.
Hi Judi,
Just wanted to extend our best wishes on your new litter of November 2019. Rivendell’s Midnight “Simon” is doing wonderful! For those reading this, he is the Tri color male pictured in the puppies of February 7, 2018. What a luv and a wonderful friend to all of us. Although he is just under 2 years, he has really calmed down and matured into a really nice pet. He loves playing in the yard and with all of his toys, of which he has many. He also gets along with Oliver our 2 yr. old male Birman Blue Tabby kitty. They have become good friends. All is good in Reno, NV this winter’s day in December 2019, it’s snowing as I write. Simon loves the tree and removes his favorite ornaments within his reach!!
Thanks Judi, best regards, Bev
My dream dog. I have yearned for an Irish Wolfhound since I was a girl … love your site. 🙂
Hi, do you have any recent or upcoming Wolfhound litters? I’ve always been interested in them but have spent the last 20 or so years of my life having yellow labs, my other childhood obsession. I am down to one yellow rescue and he needs a pal so I’m looking around. I’m sure they are out of my price range but I can dream can’t I? If you do or know of any could you keep me in mind? Thanks in advance, Lisa
We are planning a litter for next year. Whatever you decide to do, please be aware that there has been an explosion of backyard breeders and puppy millers in Irish wolfhounds over the last 15-20 years and these people have no idea what they are doing or what potential health issues are in their lines. All of the following are red flags: puppies priced significantly above or below $2500; different puppies priced at different amounts; extra price for breeding rights, pay pal and credit cards accepted, non-refundable deposits required, no liver shunt testing done, no health testing done on the sire and dam, no guarantee to take the puppy or adult back for any reason at any time, letting puppies go before they are 10-12 weeks old, advertising on PuppyFind or similar sites, lack of extensive screening of potential homes, not belonging to any Irish wolfhound breed clubs, and not requiring references from prospective homes. It is a good sign if people are showing their Irish wolfhounds but that alone is not enough to guarantee a reputable breeder. Look for the other signs as well. The best places to look for reputable breeders are club sites–The Irish Wolfhound Club of America, Great Lakes Irish Wolfhound Association, Northstar Irish Wolfhound Club. If breeders are not planning a litter, they should be able to refer you to someone else who is. Attending events put on by these Irish wolfhound clubs is a GREAT way to meet responsible breeders. It may take quite a while to find a puppy from a reliable breeder, so it is best not to rush. Judi.
I have had along interest in wolfhounds but want to be educated to the the fullest. Where is the best place to begin my journey.
Thank you in advance.
Website for Irish Wolfhound Club of America for starters–read everything on it–and consider recommended books/articles. Contact breeders near you to inquire about educational opportunities, not about puppies. It’s best to get to know about the breed, as you are doing, and get to know breeders before inquiring about puppies. There are also clubs like the Great Lakes Irish Wolfhound Association that provide excellent opportunities to get together with IW people, meet their dogs, and learn. Feel free to contact me via email, if you like.
I am so excited for your upcoming litter of Irish Wolfhound puppies. I have always wanted once of these beautiful, majestic pups my whole life, since 7 years of age. Your IW’s are the most gorgeous pups I have ever laid eyes on! I already bought a Celtic personalized bandana for one of your male pups I will name Killian. Patience is a virtue and will be worth every minute!
Excitingly yours,
Aubrey & Jared, MN
